Makueni First Lady Graduates as a Champion for Cancer Care and Leadership.

Makueni First Lady, H.E. Anita Mutula, on Thursday, graduated from a high-level training programme on leadership and advocacy in the just-concluded Leadership Programme for County Social Transformation held at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi.
She was among women leaders who showcased county innovations during the Peer-to-Peer Learning and Resource Mobilization event graced by former First Lady of Kenya, Margaret Kenyatta.

In her presentation, the First Lady shared Makueni’s remarkable strides in cancer screening and community-level advocacy, anchored by a multi-sectoral model that includes 3,612 trained Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and strategic outreach supported by several organisations including Women for Cancer, Roche Kenya, AstraZeneca, and the National Cancer Institute-Kenya.
She also highlighted the innovative use of offline data entry tools and the identification of previously undetected male breast cancer cases—as a rare, but telling achievement of outreach success.

As an executive member of the County First Ladies Association (CFLA) and the Executive Director of Anita Mbinya Foundation, the First Lady emphasized the importance of community-led models and early diagnosis, calling on stakeholders to collaborate in scaling access to cancer diagnostics, commodities like PSA kits and affordable treatment options for all Kenyans.
The event, supported by Beyond Zero under the patronage of H.E. Margaret Kenyatta, brought together other county First Ladies including Migori, Siaya, Marsabit, Kajiado and Nairobi, and featured cross-cutting innovations in early childhood development, eco-manyattas, and sickle cell care.
